Ok guys,
I noticed the deal on gears on the national board from DC4WD out of Fincastle, Va. It's $550 for both ends plus the master install kits. The gears are Genuine Gear and he said he does install them for $225 an end.
My questions are as follows:
Are Genuine Gear parts any good?
If they are--are they worth the total price charged?
Since I consider swapping gears above my ability(and patience)-- is this a good price on the install?
If Genuine Gear is not quality he seems to carry other brands (just not on sale)-so if you think the install is a good price should I upgrade manufacturers and let him do the install?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Genuine gears are junk. Look over at pirate4x4 and do a search on them. They blast them bad. Percision gears from reider racing is the best in my view. They make a true v6 gears. They are able to put them in the older 4 cyl housings.Makes them 30% stronger than 4 cyl gears. Richmond's are good also but very expensive.

DC has great prices. I wouldn't recommend Genuine Gears. See if he has a deal on Yukon gears. I ordered my Yukon gears from him.

And his installation price is great. I paid less but I had someone install them in his garage. $300-500 are the going rate for shops.

I think genuine gears get a bad wrap. They are not the best gears in the market but if properly installed they can, and will last a longtime. I broke my rear 5.29 genuines with a spool after 3 years of hard wheeling, 1.5 years with 39.5" tires. I broke two front Longfields and a Lockrite before I stripped that set. They got stripped on the ledge of Lower 2 in Tellico and I was on the skinny pedal pretty bad. If you can get a better brand set for a few $$$ more than go for it but don't sweat it.

The install price sounds reasonable
