Hello, does anybody know where the fuel filter is and the best way to change it on a 97 Tacoma 2.7 liter engine? I need to change it tonight so I can drive home.

I replaced the fuel filter, it was a pain in the ass. But it still has the same problem: acceleration really sucks. Until I get over 1500 RPM the engine sounds like it is going to die even when it is floored. I will be picking up new spark plugs tomorrow but if that still doesn't fix it then what do I do?

Saturday it was raining, so I went splashing through all of the water puddles. I really only went through 3 good size ones. (But I always do that when it rains) Then on Sunday I drove to Harrisonburg and everything seemed normal, parked for 45 minutes and headed home. When I started the engine it was running really rough, and I drove maybe 500 feet before it really started acting up. It will idle normally (most of the time) but as soon as I start to let the clutch out or rev it up the engine bogs down and almost quits. It took me 10 minutes to move it about a mile.

The exhaust was recently repaired, and the guy that did the work said the cat was in perfect condition. Hard to believe, but its what he said. I have had this problem for most of the summer, but never this bad. Ususally it only lasted for a few seconds and then everything worked normally.

the exact same thing happened in my 98 2.7l when I got stuck in the mud. It was deep. entire front end was buried. mud up past the bottom of the doors. I got yanked out and the exact same thing happened. I limped it back to my buddies house, powerwashed up under it, then took both o2 sensors out and cleaned them with carb cleaner. I also disconected the electrical connectors for them and sprayed compressed air and then electrical parts cleaner inside. This took care of it and I havent had a problem since. I dont know what else it could have been. I thik its most likely moisture inside the connectors and not the sensor itself. I am by no means a pro mechanic and dont pretend to be able to diagnose stuff by posts on the net, but thats just my experience.

Thanks for the information, my truck is finally back to normal(?). Had it in the shop for a few days, they found the rear O2 sensor completely quit working and the front O2 sensor was doing all kinds of funky shit. So that put me back $283 to replace both of them. I love spending money I don't have.

By the way, does anybody know if the engine light will come on in a 2000 4 Runner when the oil needs to be changed? I was driving one today and the light tuned on as I was pulling into my driveway.

I checked the oil, it seemed to be at the right level.
