My g/fs 4Runner has been sitting in her garage for 3 years now b/c the front axle seals kept blowning. Well now that we finally saved it from her garage, it doesnt want to idle. It would start up and run if you were giving it gas, but as soon as you let off the gas, it would stall. We have the Toyota repair book from 1984, and wew were messing with the float level, but we still cant really figure this thing out. Anybody have any suggestions or does anyone know enough about these carbs to come take a look at it and help us get it running? We need this truck on the road, and were willing to pay $$ for any help

I got a rebuild kit, and a guy my g/f used to work with was supposed to rebuild it, and when we got it back it didnt look like he did anything to it and have us this hole bag of parts back with it. I dont know anything about carbs and the rebuild kit didnt come with any directions, and i really dont wanna screw the carb up so im really just looking for someone who knows toyota or atleast just this carb to help me out. BTW its a 1984 4Runner 22r

They arnt sealed. We tryed messing with them, but they didnt do anything. We did everything out of the Toyota book, and nothing really worked. The Choke is rivited on, ud have to drill those out to mess with it, but not the screws.
Common, nobody here wants to make a few bucks and help us get this truck running?

I rebuilt the carb on my 84 Runner a few yrs back. It runs decent now but not perfect (although it's 21 yrs old, so it may never run perfect).
If the mix screw plug is out, somone's already been in it.

I dont know if anyone has messed with it before. Her Aunt bought it new in Guam in 84, so the trucks always been in the family, but i dont know if her aunt ever had it messed with or if her dad ever messed with it. But we did finally find someone to took at it, and now it idles, and we can get it to run, but something is either broken or missing inside the carb. So we really need to rebuild this thing. What rebuild kit did you use? How hard was it to rebuild? Any pointers or suggestions welcome. Also, we drained the oil the other day, and it smelled like gas, and im hoping the rings or somethign didnt go, but im gonna do a compressin test tomarrow.

I got mine at NAPA.
There is a metal tag on the top front of the carb with a p/n.
Get the number from the tag before going to the parts store.
If they don't ask for the number go somewhere else, because they're selling you a generic kit.
It's not too hard. Follow the directions, keep alll the little parts straight, get several cans of carb cleaner, and some cans of compressed air if you don't have an air compressor.
You have to drill out the choke rivets, and they give you new ones, but I used screws instead.
