My buddy bought an 87 toyota and was wondering what the best lift for it was. i told him sas but he doesnt really want to dump the money into right now. mostly because he doesnt have it. let me know if there is anything he should do, or if there is a lift out there for that truck.

The best lift for that truck would be a 1.5" ball joint spacer up front, and a lift shackle in the rear. That would allow 33x10.50 tires (33x12.50 with a bit of trimming). That's how I have wheeled my '88 junk for the past 2-3 years and it's definitely the best setup for torsion bar IFS trucks.
For more info on ball joint spacers, search over on YotaTech.com. There are dozens of threads over there concerning tire sizes, shock lengths, etc., etc. for trucks running ball joint spacers.
The spacers are about $100, and lift shackles run about $60. A new set of cheap, longer shocks all around would run $120, so for under $300 you have the about the best cheap suspension available for '86-'95 trucks.
Avoid the IFS lift kits like Pro Comp, Trailmaster, etc. like the plague. They just make your rig top heavy and they lose their alignment all the time.
