Well this morning I got a speeding ticket. The cop told me that he knows the speedometer was off cause of the tires and if I get it calibrated and its shows a big diff. in the speed, he will push for it to be dropped. It was a 64 in a 45 so I want to try this!!!! So, does anyone know where to have the speedo calibrated? Also, I assume the bigger the tires the more it will be off? So I'm running 33's, does anyone have a set of 35-36's that I could borrow when I have it calibrated to throw it off even more? I figure they are the biggest i can go without rubbing with 5.5" of lift. The last thing I need is another dam ticket!!!!!!!

With 33"s it should be off by about 10-15%. So when it shows 45 you're doing closer to 50-52.
I don't know anything about Tacos. I'm assuming they use a gear/cable driven speedo like the older trucks, in which case you have to use a different gear in the cable to adjust it. If it's an electronic speedo it'll probably need to be done by a shop/dealer.
What I do to figure out how far off my speedo is watch the mile markers on the interstate and compare it to the odometer. With my 32"s my odometer would show 9/10ths for every mile marker, so I was off about 10%
With my 36"s it's more like 8/10ths for every mile marker, so about 20% off. With this setup, my speedo will show 65 but I'm really doing about 78!

You can get a Superlift TruSpeed Calibrator. Ive got one on my 05 Taco, but I know they have an application for the older ones too. But if you want proof of how far it is off, your gonna have to go somewhere

The Pick-up, Pre 05 Taco and New Taco are all different from what i understand. What year is your truck? If itt is between a 96-04 then Paul already posted you the only cure. But i don't think it is going to help you in court.

Yeah, speaking of getting the right speed I want to do my truck as well but I have to pull out my instrument cluster (if thats what you wanna call it) and have to regear the gears for the speed and milage so that it's right. But yeah, you could just use a gps that shows how fast your going and just follow the directions to set the speed. Plus you can have the setting for the bigger tires and stock if you ever want to put them back on, it's def worth it.

the trucks an 01. according to one of the charts on there its only a 6% difference from stock to 33. not enough, thats only like 3.5 mph diff.
i think that i need to take it to a shop so they can document the diff and i guess ill need that paperwork for court. ill call around or if anyone knows of a shop does that. back to the tires, anyone have an extra set for "rent" or for sale for cheap. i know this is a hassle but its worth it.
thanks

I think the ticket is about $150 so I will just pay it and take the safety driver course so I can get some points off my license. But seeing Jesus would be pretty neat!!!

If you haven't gone to court yet.... I actually had a judge except the calibration receipt I got from a shop in Fairfax city. He dropped the number of miles over on the ticket to what the mechanic wrote down. I think it was off something like 8 miles. But I remember him asking me if I had got it done at Sears. He acted like he would only except it I hadn't cause the people at that shop apparently write down whatever you want them to. The guy I went to is up Drapper Dr. across from Fairfax High School.
