alright so im driving to work and everythings fine but alla sudden the check engine light comes on....it doesnt feel like anything wrong its running fine, so im just curious of what it could be,

its a 03 extended cab taco, 3.4l, 51,000 miles

Probably a dirty MAF. Clean it and the air filter.

MAF......MASS AIR FLOW? youve gotta work with me im mechanically challenged sometimes...

Mass air flow sensor. The sensor on the intake tube between the intake tube and air box.

Go get the code pulled for free @ autozone and post it. If you are near me, I can pull it.

yea i just went to autozone and one of thier guys did a diagnostic check and it came up good but then i remembered that i lost my gas cap like on saturday so he told me that was most likely the problem...what do you think?

Definetly. Just not putting the cap on tight can cause a CEL.

no the cap wasnt on At all for like two day

Thats why it son. Just a loose one will cause a CEL, im surprised it didnt come on sooner if it wasnt on for two days.

alright cool, but i got a new cap yesterday afternona dn the light still on...any thoughts or will it eventually turn off?

you need a scan tool to turn it off. run up to autozone again and have then turn it off.

It will turn off on its own as soon as it runs a EVAP test again and passes.

alrighty i disconnected the battery and it shut off, should i still get it checked out in case it is something more serious???

Most times discoing the battery wont clear OBDII codes. Hit up a autozone or something and have them pull the codes. They might clear them if its a EVAP code and you tell them you lost the cap before.

hey yea i got it chewcked out at autozone and everythings good it was just the capo being off so thanks for the help
