View Full Version : Moving to Hawaii
guys,
I just got some good and bad news at the same time. Looks like I will be moving to Hawaii early next year. I will know for sure by early next week, but it seems pretty positive.
It is good be cause I am bored with my current job in the Army but it is bad becasue I am going to be away from alot of the friends I have made in this area.
the plan is to take the 4Runner with me(no exo now for ease of transport reasons), I already have buyers for the trailer and F250.
Alot of my spares and some of my tools will be up for sale in the next couple months. I will stay on this board while over there.

You would call me 10 minutes after i signed the papers for my new trailer. Fawker. You know i will miss the hell out of you. You have been a great friend and someone i could only hope to be. I have alot of respect for you. With the foster kid/kids,collage,rest of the family, the big C thing and full time collage. I hope Kathy is taking this OK. But i know in 3 years you will be back here.

Well congrats Kajo on the orders. I guess it can't be that bad, sun and sand and nice weather for the next three years. Atleast it's better than heading north. Stay in touch when you head west!!! Plus learn to surf.
Another wheeler bites the dust. Well, just temporarily.
Yeah Kajo I never really met you but I would still like to think of you as a friend. I can tell you that Hawaii is a nice place as I just got back from there. I was on Oahu and The Big Island and from what I have seen from those two islands you will find a lot of places to take the 4runner because I think the majority of the island is full of trails. I wish you the best pf luck and hope you enjoy ever second of it.
We are going to have to plan a big going away offroad trip for Kajo.

Then lets hope for a warm February!
Sorry to see you go John but I know there's no way to turn down a retirement billet like this! Just don't get too used to not having WINTER! :P
I will still be keeping in touch via this board, and me and Sean were already planning to go to Rausch creek sometime in December or January for a winter run, I am sure most of the Poor Boys won't go so I think it would be cool to make it a TTORA run. When it gets close we will figure it out.
It is a three year tour and I will be stationed at Ft. Shafter which is just outside of Honolulu. There are two positions that I can be put in. One is a Topographic Printing Platoon Sergeant in charge of about 36 soldiers and 2 million dollars worth of equipment. The other job is a Quality control inspector to check all the maps that the platoon prints, your not incharge of any soldiers but your incharge of making sure maps that are used by soldiers worldwide are 100 percent accurate.
Va_Len, thanks for the info on trails, it is good to know that I will be able to wheel a little bit there.

So I take it your background/training is in Geographic Information Systems/Cartography?
My g/f is in a similar field, well used to be. She used to work for Spatial Systems Associates in Columbia, MD.

Yeah, my actual Joble in the military is "Topographic Lithographer" Our units and training fall under NIMA (National Imagery and Mapping Agency) and NGA (National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) currently. When I was trained we were the Defense mapping Agency.
I have been sidetracked for the past 8 years designing graphics and printing manuals and forms. I am looking forward to getting back into what I am trained to do.

Belvoir's a nice post, I'm usually down at the T-pier driving around mike boats for the army, but it doesn't compare to Hawaii. . The winters are going to be a lot better.
the club I am planning on joining went wheeling this past weekend. This is a pic of the campsite :D
